Deck box maker
Deck box template
A reverse tuck box sized to a deck of playing or trading cards, with a half-round notch in the front to draw them out. The starting size fits a sleeved deck of about 60.
Ready-made sizes
Inside sizes from the maker's published size, plus room to slide it in.
Poker deck (52 cards)
2.58 × 0.75 × 3.58 in 65.5 × 19.2 × 90.9 mm
Deck box. From 2.5 × 3.5 in (63.5 × 88.9 mm) cards, about 0.33 mm thick each1; room added: 2 mm across, in height and on the 52 cards' 17.2 mm; card stocks differ, so stack yours and measure.
Sleeved deck (about 60)
2.68 × 1.42 × 3.66 in 68 × 36 × 93 mm
Deck box. From 66 × 91 mm (a standard-size card sleeve, for Magic and Pokemon cards)2; room added: 2 mm across and in height, and 36 mm of thickness for about 60 sleeved cards: sleeves differ, so stack yours and measure.
How to fold it
Print at 100% on 250 to 300 gsm card, or on board if the box will be carried around.
Cut the outline, then the thumb notch: a half circle cut down from the top edge of the front panel.
Score the long dashed lines so each wall folds square, with no kink where the notch sits.
Wrap the walls into a tube and fix the grey tab inside the far side wall, pressing until it grips.
Close the bottom with its own tuck lid: the dust flaps fold in first, the lid after, and its flap slides into the tube.
Slide the cards in with the notch at the top. Fold the top lid over the back and tuck its flap in behind the front wall.
How the template is drawn
Sized round the deck
The width, depth and height you type are the inside: card width, deck thickness and card height. At 2.68 × 1.42 × 3.66 in it holds a sleeved deck of about 60 cards, with about 2 mm of room each way.
Thickness
Count the cards, multiply by one card's thickness, then add about 2 mm. Sleeved cards are thicker than bare ones, so stack yours and measure the stack with a ruler.
Thumb notch
A half-round notch of 11 mm (0.43 in) radius, cut down from the top edge of the front. It stays within a fifth of the width, a third of the height and 90% of the tuck flap's depth.
Tuck flap
The top lid's flap is 21.8 mm (0.86 in) deep. The lid hinges on the back, so the flap goes in behind the front and keeps the box shut.
Clearance and dust
The flap sits 0.8 mm (0.03 in) inside each edge of the lid, so it slides in freely. The dust flaps reach 20.5 mm (0.81 in) under the lid.
Glue tab
15 mm (0.59 in) wide, glued inside the far side wall, where it stays hidden when the box is shut.
Trading cards and sleeves
Trading cards such as Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon measure 63 × 88 mm without sleeves, so enter those as the card width and height. The tool offers Poker deck, Sleeved deck and Double deck shapes; pick the one closest to your stack and measure it again.
A box that goes to the table gets carried often, so print it on heavier board. A sliding drawer box suits a small set you want to slide out, a box with lid keeps a collection on a shelf, and a mailer box posts a set safely. A tuck end box with the same closure holds a few booster packs.
