How to fold it

    Wine bottle box template

A tube rolled to the bottle's own diameter, with a round base and a lid that tucks shut. A standard 750 ml bottle fits on one Tabloid or A3 sheet; smaller bottles on Letter or A4.

    Ready-made sizes

Inside sizes from the maker's published size, plus room to slide it in.

    How to fold it

    1. Print at 100% on cardstock. Pick the 750 ml ready-made size, or measure your bottle's widest part and its height and type them.

    2. Cut the outline: the long strip, the round lid above it and the round base beside the lid.

    3. Crease the line between the strip and the lid, the lid's tuck crease and the row of tabs along the bottom. The strip itself has no creases: it bends round.

    4. Roll the strip round, printed side out, and glue the grey strip inside the other edge, from the bottom up.

    5. Turn the bottom tabs in, put glue on them and press the round base on from below. Let it dry standing up.

    6. Slide the bottle in, close the lid and push its tuck down inside the tube.

    How the template is drawn

The wine bottle box template at 3.11 × 12.13 in, flatFrontLidBase
The template at 3.11 × 12.13 in: solid lines are cut, dashed lines are folded, grey tabs are glued.
    • Rolled to the bottle

The strip is exactly as long as the bottle's circumference plus one board: 3.1416 × the diameter, 249 mm (9.8 in) for the 750 ml bottle at 3.11 × 12.13 in. A 12 mm (0.47 in) glue strip overlaps the other edge.

    • Why round

A square box for the same bottle needs four walls of 79.3 mm (3.12 in) side by side plus a tuck end at each end of a 12 in tube: too big for one Tabloid sheet. The round tube's strip is the shortest way round the bottle, so it fits one Tabloid or A3 sheet with its lid and base beside it.

    • Base

3.13 in (79.5 mm) across, glued under a ring of 8 mm (0.31 in) tabs, each narrowed at its ends so the ring folds flat without overlapping.

    • Lid

Drawn as the tube's own top, hinged on the front so it closes flat on the rim, with a 15 mm (0.59 in) tuck on its side that pushes down inside the tube.

    • Square option

Choose “Square” for a tuck end box with a square end as wide as the bottle: a better fit for a small bottle, a candle or a tube of biscuits, and it stands on a shelf with a flat front.

Wine gifts, oils and tall bottles

Wrap a bottle for a dinner, a wedding table or a thank-you: print the tube on patterned card, or put a name on the front with the label. The same tube holds a bottle of olive oil, a tall candle or a rolled poster; type their diameter and height.

A bottle of the 750 ml size needs a Tabloid or A3 printer; smaller bottles fit Letter. For flat gifts, use the pillow box; for a tall bar, the triangular prism box; for a slice of cake, the cake box; and for a small bottle that stands on a shelf, the tuck end box.
