Bottle bag maker
Bottle bag template
A narrow, tall bag that holds one bottle upright, with a band at the neck and two holes for a ribbon. A 750 ml bottle prints as two pieces, one per sheet; a smaller bottle fits Letter or A4.
Ready-made sizes
Inside sizes from the maker's published size, plus room to slide it in.
750 ml wine bottle
3.11 × 3.11 × 12.4 in 79 × 79 × 315 mm
Bottle bag. From 11.8 in (30 cm) tall, 2.95 in (7.5 cm) across (a standard 750 ml bottle)1; room added: 4 mm across and 15 mm above the bottle, so the top gathers round the neck.
How to fold it
Pick the 750 ml wine bottle size, or measure your bottle's width and height and type them. Print each piece at 100% on its own sheet.
Cut out both pieces along the solid lines. Punch the two neck holes in each piece with a 1/4 in hole punch, where the template marks them.
Crease every dashed line on both pieces, folding each both ways, including the 45° lines at the foot of each side.
Fold the band down inside the top, then fold the front piece into a tube with its two sides and glue its far-edge tabs onto the back piece.
Form the bottom: fold each side's triangle in, fold the front flap up, and glue the back's bottom flap over it. Press from inside.
Slide the bottle in, thread the ribbon through the two holes and tie it round the bottle's neck.
How the template is drawn
The 750 ml size
A standard 750 ml bottle is 11.8 in (30 cm) tall and 2.95 in (7.5 cm) across. The ready-made bag is 3.11 × 3.11 × 12.4 in inside: 4 mm of room across and 15 mm above the bottle.
Two pieces, not one
Round a bottle, the tube is two widths, two depths and a tab: about 26 cm, too long to print with the back on the same sheet. So the front, with both sides, and the back, with its bottom flap, each print on their own.
Sheets for 750 ml
Each piece takes its own A3 or Tabloid sheet, so a 750 ml bag needs two. A half bottle, a beer or an oil bottle fits Letter or A4 for each piece: type its width and height.
Band at the neck
The top 18.9 mm (0.74 in) of the bag turns down inside. It is 6% of the height, kept between 10 and 20 mm, and it stiffens the mouth where the ribbon sits.
Holes at the neck
Two holes, 1/4 in (6.35 mm) across, sit 27.7 mm (1.09 in) apart. They go through the front and back and both bands, so one ribbon passes through both at once.
Shape limits
The bag is at least twice as tall as it is wide and never deeper than it is wide. Bottle is the standard proportion; Short keeps the same limits for a bag nearer the minimum height.
Wine gifts, olive oil and host presents
Wrap a bottle for a dinner, a wedding table or a thank-you: print the front on patterned card, or put a name on it with the label. The same bag holds a bottle of olive oil or sauce, or a tall candle in a jar; type its width and height. For a 750 ml bottle that should stand still on a shelf, the round wine bottle box prints the bottle on one Tabloid or A3 sheet and is the stiffer choice.
A host gift with a soft wrap goes in a gift bag with paper handles, and a flat extra, such as a card or a box of chocolates, in a pillow box or a tuck end box. For a jar or a pack with no neck to tie, the plain paper bag needs no ribbon.
