Favor pouch maker
Favor pouch template
A flat pouch for one small gift. Type the pocket's width and height and the template comes with side tabs, a rounded flap and a slot for the tongue.
How to fold it
Print at 100%, then measure one side with a ruler: it should match the size on screen. Cardstock holds the tongue in its slot better than thin paper.
Cut along the solid lines with scissors. Cut the short slot in the front with a craft knife on a cutting mat, not with scissors.
Crease every dashed line, folding each one both ways so the paper bends easily.
Fold the two side tabs in and put glue on them. Fold the back up behind the front along the bottom crease and press the tabs to the inside of the front.
Fill the pouch, fold the flap over the front and push the tongue down through the slot.
To open it, pull the tongue back out. It slides in again as often as you like, because the flap has no glue on it.
How the template is drawn
Pocket is the size you type
The width is measured between the two glue tabs and the height from the bottom fold to the rim: 3 in (76.2 mm) by 4 in (101.6 mm) at 3 × 4 in.
Glue tabs
Each tab is 10 mm (0.39 in) wide, one on each side of the back. It turns in between front and back and is glued to the front's inside, where it stays hidden. Settings allows 5 to 25 mm, and it is never more than a fifth of the width.
Flap and tongue
The flap is 30.6 mm (1.2 in) deep: 30% of the height, kept between 12 and 50 mm. Its rounded sides curve down to a tongue 25.2 mm (0.99 in) wide, a third of the width, and 15.3 mm (0.6 in) long.
Slot
The slot is 27.2 mm (1.07 in) long, a millimeter longer than the tongue at each end, and two board thicknesses plus half a millimeter wide. The tongue slides in without tearing the paper.
Checked folded
Pressed flat with the flap shut, the back lies right behind the front, the tabs are inside and the tongue sits in its slot. There is no gusset, so the pouch suits flat gifts only.
What goes in a flat favor
A gift card, a few seed packets, tea bags, wrapped sweets, a folded note or a sheet of stickers all fit a favor pouch. A thicker gift needs a gusset: the envelope pouch opens into a shallow box, and a pillow box holds a small bar with its ends pinched shut. Sweets by the handful suit a treat cone, and a tuck end box is better for a bar of soap.
Print on 120 to 200 gsm paper, cardstock if the tongue has to hold tight. Fill the panels with a color or a pattern and add a label to the front before you print. For a bigger pouch, pick a bigger sheet, or type the size of the card you have under “Other size…”. Pick Square, Tall or Wide to change the proportions; for a bag with handles, see the gift bag.
